On March 21, the first day of MMS 2011, I announced the immediate availability of the Deployment Research blog and Deployment Research Facebook page. Sites filled with video-tutorials on how to deploy operating systems. Information about this new site, as well a bunch of other deployment related community sites was by the way also printed (thank you FedEx) and put in the attendee-bag (Thank you Microsoft) for every MMS 2011 attendee, about 4000 people.
This also means that the deployvista.com blog will not be much active anymore. It will still exist, but the content will gradually be migrated over to the new site, cleaned-up and converted into the new format…
Happy deployment, and I hope to see you online in the forums…

Fully Unattended Vista Setup using WDS

This is a quick guide and samples files for a fully unattended setup of Vista using WDS.
Download sample unattend.xml files from the Vista repository

Step-by-step guide...
To add The Windows Deployment Services client unattend.xml
- Copy the Sample WDSClientUnattend.xml to \RemoteInstall\WDSClientUnattend
- In the Windows Deployment Services Console, expand Servers, right-click the server and select properties
- In the Client tab, select the "Enable unattended installation" checkbox, browse to \RemoteInstall\WDSClientUnattend\WDSClientUnattend.xml and click OK
To add Image (Vista Setup) unattend.xml
- Copy the Sample Image (Vista Setup) ImageUnattend.xml to c:\tmp
- In the Windows Deployment Services Console, expand Servers, expand your server, expand Install Images, select your image group, in the right pane, right-click the image and select properties
- In the General tab, select the "Allow image to install in unattended mode" checkbox, click "Select File", browse to c:\tmp\ImageUnattend.xml and click OK twice.
